Application process

After reviewing the available positions, candidates should enter The Strong’s online career center, provided through InfinityHR, and view the available positions. To apply for a position, simply select the position for which you would like to apply.  Once the application has been successfully completed, candidates can revisit the site to check the status of their application simply by logging in using the user name and password they created.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Strong seeks an experienced and energetic fundraising professional to build and lead a comprehensive institutional advancement team responsible for all aspects of development operations for an organization that has a vital and unique educational mission; widely publicized and nationally significant historical collections and programs; and an extraordinary array of community outreach services.

Because of the great strengths of The Strong, this position offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to grow the institution’s development activities exponentially and to help the organization expand its educational mission and services even further.

Working closely with the President and CEO, the successful candidate will manage and be responsible for all aspects of The Strong’s institutional advancement activities, including but not limited to corporate and foundation giving, government grants, individual giving, planned giving, and special events.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience and skill required to develop and lead a dynamic individual giving program in particular, as building this capacity will be a major immediate and ongoing emphasis of The Strong’s institutional advancement operations.

The successful candidate must have superior oral and written communication skills, experience in and enthusiasm for working collaboratively in a team-based environment, capacity for strategic thinking and planning, and ability both to delegate and to lead by example.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4-6 years of fundraising and donor relations experience, preferably at a major cultural institution or university. Master’s degree preferred but superior experience may substitute. 
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office, including Excel, essential; familiarity and experience using Raiser’s Edge is highly desirable. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with modern constituency-building techniques. 
  • Commitment to quality guest service. 
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a highly collaborative, team-based environment.
