| In chapter 1 you explain how to alter and deploy an edi schema. You also state that there should be one customized schema for each partner. You did not explain if the target namespace should be altered. BizTalk is having problems if multiple schemas are deployed with the same root node / target namespace. | In this instance, where each trading partner has its own version of the same document, you would need to give each a unique namespace (along the lines of BizTalk.855.TPName). In most solutions, you only need a single schema to represent all trading partners - but occassionally, when partners have extremely odd instances of documents - you may need to have several schemas all representing the same document. |
| Chapter 2 In Exercise 2-1 you are saying to create BizTalk application by importing the MSI and Bindings from the downloaded source code. This will create all the ports, parties, etc. In Exercise 2-4 you are instructing to create the same parties, ports, etc., which already have been created due to executing the exercise 2-1. On the other hand if we delete the application and the parties that were created due to exercise 2-1, then while creating the ports, we are not getting the required pipelines (such as EDIReceive or EDISend). I found some other problems also. I started the book with a very good mood, and already read its four chapters, hoping to get much out of the book. But as I started its exercises, I found myself in much problem. The book is a good attempt by the author. But what I think is that it has not been reviewed by an independent board of reviewers. As you know that BizTalk is more a practical subject, that's why the importance of clear, correct and carefully written Exercises should be much more than theory. Before touching this book, I have studied and completed all the exercises from all the fourteen chapters of another book from Apress - "Foundation Of BizTalk Server 2006", and found no mistake or any problem. Same was expected from this book. |
I appreciate the feedback, and am sorry to hear that you are having difficulties working with the exercises. BizTalk's EDI functionality can be tricky when first working with it. I've done many BizTalk EDI implementations, and am certain that the exercises in the book work. Tony Bernard, who headed the EDI development team at Microsoft, was the primary reviewer, and the information was fully worked through by him. If you would like to contact me directly, I would be happy to discuss with you and see if we can resolve any specific errors you might be getting in working with the product. mbeckner@inotekgroup.com.
